Vagrant Bartenders' Black Cauldron Punch

A Halloween-worthy punch — no candy corn or fake eyeballs necessary — from cocktail consulting company Vagrant Bartenders.


  • 1 750-mL bottle of vodka
  • 1 cup black currants
  • 5 lapsang souchong teabags
  • 3 cups turbinado sugar
  • 3 cups water
  • 2 cups fresh lime
  • 3 bottles of ginger beer
  • 1 teaspoon squid ink


One day to two weeks ahead:

Infuse the vodka by adding the black currants with just a teaspoon of squid ink and letting sit overnight in an air-tight container, shaking at least once. The next day, filter out the black currants. In a separate pot, add 5 black lapsang souchong black tea bags, 3 cups turbinado sugar and 3 cups water. Let it simmer for 5-10 minutes covered. Remove tea bags and let cool.

Day of:

Add 2 cups of fresh squeezed lime juice and the 3 bottles of ginger beer to the vodka and syrup in a large punch bowl. Serve over ice or with a large cube.
