How to Make the Southern 75, a Down-South Take on a Classic

A foamy brown cocktail.
The Southern 75 features some of the South's most beloved cocktail ingredients.

In this cocktail by Nate Shuman of Edgar's Proof & Provision in Atlanta, bourbon, brown sugar simple syrup, lemon and bitters conjoin with an American IPA for a drink that's as warm as Southern hospitality. Like the classic French 75, this cocktail features a classic Southern spirit (bourbon) and mixes it with beloved Southern bubbles (an IPA), alongside the citrus and sugar staples. Take a little trip down South with the Southern 75:

Recipe:

  • 1.5 oz Four Roses Yellow Label Bourbon
  • .5 oz brown sugar simple syrup
  • .75 oz fresh lemon juice
  • 3 dashes Regan's Orange Bitters
  • 6 oz. American IPA

Add bourbon, syrup, lemon and bitters into shaker with ice and shake. Pour into 6 ounces of American IPA. Garnish with flamed lemon peel and serve up.
