Statement of Expectations for Personal and Professional Conduct

At Tales of the Cocktail, we are committed, first and foremost, to hosting the safest event in our industry. That means every one of our Tales of the Cocktail Attendees, Participants, Sponsors, Cocktail Apprentices, Fellows, Staff, and Consultants are governed by our Code of Professional and Personal Conduct, which sets a gold standard for appropriate behavior and will be rigorously enforced.


The safety of attendees when events are under our direct control is one of our top concerns. However, even when events are not under our direct control, we will advocate in the strongest way on behalf of those impacted by inappropriate behavior and offer a compassionate and empathetic ear.


Tales of the Cocktail® Promotes a Fair, Safe and Ethical Environment

Tales of the Cocktail has a goal to provide a safe, encouraging and supportive environment that recognizes and values diversity, abilities and contributions. The Tales of the Cocktail Attendees, Participants, Sponsors, Cocktail Apprentices, Fellows, Staff, and Consultants are entitled to be treated with respect and in an environment free from discrimination, incivility, harassment, bullying, violence (or threats of violence) or vilification. Equally, Tales of the Cocktail Attendees, Participants, Sponsors, Cocktail Apprentices, Fellows, Staff, and Consultants have a responsibility to act with integrity, honesty, transparency and impartiality in their dealings with colleagues, and members of the wider community.


Tales of the Cocktail Attendees, Participants, Sponsors, Cocktail Apprentices, Fellows, Staff, and Consultants must not put themselves or others at risk or reduce their ability to carry out their duties through unsafe practices, inappropriate behaviors or substance abuse. An ethical environment relies upon individuals having responsibility for their own professional behavior.


Tales of the Cocktail® Promotes Equity, Diversity and Social Inclusion

Tales of the Cocktail Attendees, Participants, Sponsors, Cocktail Apprentices, Fellows, Staff, and Consultants will be instrumental in creating an environment where all are able to participate fully, find a sense of belonging, and have opportunity to engage meaningfully with the broader community.


Tales of the Cocktail Attendees, Participants, Sponsors, Cocktail Apprentices, Fellows, Staff, and Consultants will act to create a fair, respectful, inclusive and safe environment, where diversity is valued and where unlawful discrimination, violence (or threats of violence), bullying, harassment and victimization in any form are considered unacceptable.


Demonstrating Leadership

Tales of the Cocktail Sponsors, Cocktail Apprentices, Fellows, Staff, and Consultants should model their behavior based on the Tales of the Cocktail’s Values and this Code of Conduct, and at all times act in an ethical manner. Leadership is about positive influence, inspiring and empowering others.


Examples of Unacceptable Behavior

The following list illustrates examples of behavior which would be deemed unacceptable, under this Statement of Expectations for Personal and Professional Conduct. This list is not all-inclusive, but merely indicates the types of actions subject to disciplinary action, expulsion from the Event, or referral for prosecution. By providing these examples, Tales of the Cocktail in no way restricts its legal discretion to terminate employment, contractual relationships, or access to any Event(s).

  • Bringing firearms or weapons of any kind, illegal drugs, or unapproved chemicals onto the premises;
  • Being impaired by alcohol, illegal drugs, or intoxicants of any kind;
  • Unbecoming behavior that misrepresents Tales of the Cocktail;
  • Stating or making false claims of injury;
  • Fighting or threatening, intimidating or coercing any Tales of the Cocktail Attendee, Participant, Sponsor, Cocktail Apprentice, Fellow, Staff, or Consultant;
  • Violating safety or health rules or practices, or engaging in conduct that creates a safety hazard;
  • Negligence or improper conduct leading to damage or loss of property;
  • Insubordination or other disrespectful conduct toward any Tales of the Cocktail Attendee, Participant, Sponsor, Cocktail Apprentice, Fellow, Staff, or Consultant;
  • Sexual or other harassment or retaliation;
  • Discrimination against any Tales of the Cocktail Attendee, Participant, Sponsor, Cocktail Apprentice, Fellow, Staff, or Consultant;
  • Failure to cooperate fully or provide truthful information in a Tales of the Cocktail’ investigation;
  • Inappropriate photography or recording;
  • Deliberate intimidation, stalking or following (online or in person);
  • Violation of these policies and rules, as set forth in these Guidelines or elsewhere.


Drug and Casual Alcohol Policy

Tales of the Cocktail realizes that the misuse of drugs and alcohol impairs one’s productivity and is hazardous to their health and the safety of the individual and those around them. Drug and alcohol problems result in unsafe conditions for any Tales of the Cocktail Attendee, Participant, Sponsor, Cocktail Apprentice, Fellow, Staff, and Consultant. Tales of the Cocktail is committed to maintaining a productive, safe, and healthy environment, free of unauthorized drug and alcohol use.


Any Tales of the Cocktail Attendee, Participant, Sponsor, Cocktail Apprentice, Fellow, Staff, or Consultant involved in the unlawful use, sale, manufacturing, dispensing or possession of controlled substances, and illicit drugs on the premises, or working under the influence of such substances, including alcohol, will be subject to disciplinary action up to and including dismissal, expulsion, and referral for prosecution.


Reporting

In the event any Tales of the Cocktail Attendees, Participants, Sponsors, Cocktail Apprentices, Fellows, Staff, and Consultants observe or are made aware of a violation of the above stated expectations for behavior, they are asked to report a violation of the Statement of Expectations using this form.
