NEW ORLEANS – (Jan. 4, 2018) – Tales of the Cocktail®, the world’s premier cocktail festival, is proud to announce its support of Beyond Bars with a $5,000 donation made recently to the organization. The donation will directly benefit the Beyond Bars school in South Africa which will offer hospitality training and job placement for women who are former inmates.

With overcrowded prisons and a 50 percent youth unemployment rate in South Africa, it is difficult for female former inmates to secure a sustainable income. For many of these women, their life experience has been characterized by abuse, loss, financial and emotional isolation and damaged relationships. The cumulative effect of this context has limited their perceptions of the opportunities the world offers to them. Beyond Bars provides these women with hope and opportunities through specialized, sponsored hospitality training. This training gives them the qualifications they need to enter the job market, and equips them with the life skills they need to thrive as they re-enter society.

“Simply put, if it wasn’t for faithful supporters like Tales, we wouldn’t exist,” says Stephanie Simbo, founder and CEO of Beyond Bars. “The hospitality industry is often depicted in a negative image due to many issues we are dealing with. But, I believe it is important to highlight the good of it. So I thank Tales of the Cocktail for supplying the funds that we need to make a difference in the lives of those battered women who struggle with being recognized as contributing citizens to the society here in South Africa.”

Tales of the Cocktail is proud to continue to support great organizations like Beyond Bars in extending the many benefits of the hospitality industry to every corner of society throughout the world.

“Beyond Bars is doing amazing work and we couldn’t be more pleased to help them in their efforts,” said Tales of the Cocktail president Melissa Young. “We are happy to champion their cause and can’t wait to see the wonderful talent that comes out of their school.”

Tales of the Cocktail returns to New Orleans July 18-23, 2018.
