Michael Ian Black to Host the 2017 Spirited Awards®
New Orleans, LA—July, 18, 2017— Tales of the Cocktail® is honored to announce that Michael Ian Black will host the 2017 Spirited Awards ® in New Orleans. The actor, comedian and author is known worldwide for his work in shows like The State, Viva Variety, Michael and Michael Have Issues and Wet Hot American Summer as well has his legendary sketch comedy groups. He will lead the show that will recognize the spirits industry’s best bars, bartenders, writers and more in 26 different categories. The Spirited Awards will be held Saturday, July 22 at the Sheraton Hotel in New Orleans.
“The Spirited Awards are about recognizing the best of our industry. But it’s also an evening for our community to let loose after a week of events. Having Michael Ian Black hosting the awards means we’re in for a very good time on a very special evening,” said Ann Tuennerman, Founder of Tales of the Cocktail ®.
Black’s career began with the legendary sketch comedy group and MTV hit show, The State. From there he has gone on to be recognized around the world for his comedic work in television, film, writing and standup. He co-created the television shows Viva Variety, Stella, and Michael and Michael Have Issues and was heavily featured on VH1's I Love the… series. Most recently, he’s been a lead on TVLand’s The Jim Gaffigan Show , Comedy Central’s Another Period, and the Netflix television series Wet Hot American Summer . Black has also written 11 books, including the recent bestseller, A Child’s First Book of Trump, and is popular podcaster with his regular shows How To Be Amazing, Mike and Tom Eat Snacks with Tom Cavanagh, and Topics with Michael Showalter.
Since their debut in 2007, the Spirited Awards ® have recognized the best and brightest in the cocktail and spirits industries. The award categories stretch from bartenders and brand ambassadors to bars and writers in order to ensure that every aspect of the industry receives recognition for it’s contributions. For these efforts, the Spirited Awards ® have grown to become one of the most coveted an industry professional can receive. A panel industry experts, led by Charlotte Voisey, took part in a week-long voting process to choose their picks for Awards finalists. These votes were then reviewed and tallied up by Advisory Committee Members to determine the top finalists in each category.
The Spirited Awards® are one of more than 200 events at the 15 th Annual Tales of the Cocktail®, the world’s premier professional cocktail festival, being held in New Orleans July 18-23, 2017.
