Tales of the Cocktail Announces Recycling Numbers for 2015 Festival
NEW ORLEANS, LA – September 1, 2015 – In its on-going commitment to the environment, Tales of the Cocktail® is proud to announce the significant impact of its green initiatives from the 2015 Tales of the Cocktail® events. Partnering with Phoenix Recycling, 360 Vodka and the Hollygrove Farm, the Tales of the Cocktail® team was able to coordinate the recycling of much of the compost, plastic and, for the first time, glass to continue its efforts to reduce the annual festival’s environmental footprint.
“We love New Orleans so the last thing we want to do is create events that have a negative impact on our city and the environment. We’re always looking for ways that we can reduce our footprint even further,” said Ann Tuennerman, Co-Founder of Tales of the Cocktail®. “Adding glass recycling was big for us this year. We were able to keep more than 2 tons of glass out of the landfill.”
Few recycling facilities accept glass in New Orleans, making it difficult for Tales of the Cocktail® to recycle liquor bottles in years past. In 2015, Tales of the Cocktail® partnered with Phoenix Recycling to recycle 4,162 pounds of glass. In partnership with 360 Vodka, 5,490 pounds of organic waste was donated to the Hollygrove Farm, an urban farm located in New Orleans, for their composting program. Additionally, more than 200,000 plastic sampling cups were recycled, all cardboard and packaging materials were recycled and many printed materials were moved online to reduce the use of paper.
"It was great to see that such high profile event recognized the importance of recycling, furthermore they took it upon themselves to explore and implement as many green initiatives that were available to them.” said Christopher Prasad, President of Phoenix Recycling New Orleans. “It was truly a pleasure to work with [Tales of the Cocktail]."
