Chartreuse, Charred Barrels & More: 8 Awesome Moments from Tuesday's Tales

The seminar-packed days of Tales don’t officially kick off in full swing until today, but that doesn’t stop us (and our guests) from hitting the ground running early in the week. On Tuesday, we got things started with everything from Chartreuse flights to charred barrel demos, plus a state of the union-style address from Bacardi CEO Mike Dolan and a lot of after-hours shenanigans. Of course, this is only a tiny fraction of the good stuff, so be sure to follow us on Instagram for more (and follow along using #TOTC2016). Read on for a few of our favorite snaps from the day:

1. Daiquiris at 30,000 Feet

Tyler Heim didn’t waste any time in getting the party started, with an impressive daiquiri setup before even landing in New Orleans for our #MileHighCocktailClub challenge.

2. Getting Lit at Old New Orleans Rum

Old New Orleans Rum (a.k.a. America's oldest operating rum distillery) took guests behind the scenes with head distiller Mike Kelly to learn about open lid fermentation, wild fermentation, barrel repair and — as demonstrated here in this incredible photo — barrel charring.

3. The O.G. Mule Mug

If you’ve been paying close attention, you probably know the history of the Moscow Mule mug — but did you know the original mug itself made a cameo at Tales? If you missed it, make sure to stop by the Ritz Carlton from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. all week to catch a glimpse.

4. High Pour-fection

Stuart Hudson demonstrates an awe-inspiring thrown drink, which never fails to amaze us.

5. A Journey Through Chartreuse

From yellow to green VEP to disco-era, we’re still salivating over this flight of Chartreuse led by Frederick Wildman & Sons’ Director of Spirits, Tim Master.

6. Talking Shop with Mike Dolan

The gregarious CEO of Bacardi spoke about everything from virtual reality to hip-hop artist Swizz Beatz to, of course, the brand’s perspective on Cuba. Catch the full talk here.

7. Gary Clark, Jr. Brings Down the House

The incredible Gary Clark, Jr. shredded onstage at Jameson Live as the brand’s surprise musical guest.

8. Boozy Bowling

And, per tradition, Hollywood’s The Spare Room and Diageo teamed up to bring us a night of friendly competition in the bowling lanes for the fifth year in a row. Here, Bittered Sling’s Lauren Mote brings athleticism and style to the lanes.
