19 Bars Fully Embracing the Holiday Spirit
The holiday season isn’t always easy on folks working the service industry. Busy shifts cut into time spent with family, team morale (and sleep) can dip, and stressed clientele can set a staff on edge. Not to mention the fact that all those beloved holiday classics — eggnog, milk punch, hot toddies — can be kind of a pain to make.
But even amidst the hectic hours, the high volume, and the looping soundtrack, the holiday season can bring a little magic. And that magic is especially apparent when it comes to bars that go all out with decking their halls. To get in the holiday spirit in proper form, we scoped out a handful of the most festive seasonal bar decor examples we could find. Pour yourself some nog or whip up a Tom & Jerry, sit back and soak up the holiday cheer.

Celeste Chicago transformed into a sparkling winter wonderland for the holiday season.
Chez Dallaire (Montreal)
Montreal’s Chez Dallaire looks like the perfect cozy hideaway to take respite from wintry weather.
Molly's Pub (New York)
This cozy traditional Irish pub is all about sawdust on the floor and twinkle lights strewn from the ceiling.
Cellar Door (New Orleans)
We’d love to gather ‘round this tree and see what kind of Christmas cheer the bartenders at New Orleans’ Cellar Door can whip up for us.

This vignette from Chicago’s Presidio looks like a seasonal West Elm catalog come to life.
Miracle on 9th Street (New York)
New York’s MACE was transformed into a holiday explosion for the annual Miracle on 9th Street holiday pop-up, complete with very appropriate glassware from Cocktail Kingdom.
Miracle on Monroe (Atlanta)
The Miracle madness made its way down South, too, with a pop-up in Atlanta.
Lost Lake Tiki (Chicago)
It's time for Sippin' Santa's Surf Shack at @lostlaketiki! For the whole month of December, your favorite tiki hideaway is now your favorite holiday hideaway. The decorations have festive drinks to match, featuring recipes from Lost Lake, @latitude29nola and @boilermakernyc. See you there every day til next year, yeah? #sippinsanta
Lost Lake has a knack for bringing whimsy and solid design to just about everything they do, so it’s no surprise their holiday game is on-point too. This year, the beloved Chicago tiki outpost teamed up with Latitude 29 and Boilermaker for a collaborative multi-city pop-up, Sippin’ Santa’s Surf Shack.
Boilermaker (New York)
Over in New York, Boilermaker does Christmas tiki in high style, complete with appropriate glassware.
Latitude 29 (New Orleans)
And in New Orleans, Beach Bum Berry’s Latitude 29 exemplifies the mele kalikimaka spirit.
Twinkle lights and pine trees are great, but we love that Chicago’s Remedy went whole hog with Santa and a few reindeer zooming above the bar.
Cotton and Reed (Washington, D.C.)
DC’s Cotton and Reed created a glowing, twinkly holiday hangout complete with wreaths and candles.
The J. Parker (Chicago)
The J. Parker takes a more modern, geometric approach to wintry decor. The view is pretty dreamy, too.
Melrose Umbrella Co. (Los Angeles)
Melrose Umbrella Co. may be in LA, but this combination of hardwoods and evergreen transports us to Aspen.
Duck and Waffle (London)
Of course a bar serving cocktails like these would look like this during the month of December. Cheers to you, Duck and Waffle.
Eight Bar (Chicago)
We're in @timeoutchicago for best bars to get into the Christmas spirit! That's a sure fire way to keep the cold out!! 🎄🎱 Photo: @jimvondruska #happyholidays #holiday #holidays #tistheseason #Christmas #Chicago #GoldCoast #chicagobars #chicagofood #igerschicago #chigram #chicagofoodauthority #infatuationchi #eaterchicago #foodphotography #todayfood #alwayshungrychi #312food #mychicagopix #devourpower #sokophoto #chicagofooddude
Is it just us, or is Chicago slaying (or would that be sleighing?) the holiday decor game? Pictured here, Eight Bar and their decked halls, which earned them a well-deserved nod in Time Out Chicago.
Pete's Tavern (New York)
Sometimes, less is more. For Pete's, holiday decorating is not one of those times. Clark Griswold would be proud.
Rolf's (New York)
This insane place, perhaps the granddaddy of bar holiday decor, has become famous for its Christmas swag, on which it apparently spends $60,000 annually for the ornate display, complete with over 15,000 ornaments draped from the ceiling.
Rocco the Pugtender
You know we had to. Merry Christmas, Rocco!
